Hawke's Bay is a region that sells itself on image, and a professional portfolio here should speak to the businesses doing the selling. Wine leads: cellar doors, vineyard landscapes through the seasons, harvest activity from February to April, bottle and food styling, winemakers at work. Practising it means approaching a winery; the region has dozens, and Mission Estate, the oldest, and the Gimblett Gravels producers are used to photographers. Food and produce follow: apple and stone-fruit orchards, pack-houses, the farmers markets and the restaurants that F.A.W.C! showcases.

Tourism is the second market: the Art Deco Trust, the regional tourism organisation, accommodation and the operators who serve the cruise season from October to April all need imagery of the precinct, the gannets and Te Mata. Napier Port and the horticulture exporters need corporate and industrial work. Weddings are strong, with couples travelling from Wellington and Auckland for vineyard ceremonies, so environmental portraits in vine rows and on Te Mata belong in the portfolio.
