Your Tutors
Deb
Head Tutor — Landscape & Travel Photography
Seasoned photographer and educator with a passion for landscape, travel, macro, and food photography. As Head Tutor, Deb reviews assignments across nearly every course on offer, and her feedback consistently comes back to the same principle: strong technical fundamentals are what let a photographer's own style come through, rather than getting in the way of it.
John
Tutor — Nature, Travel & Sports Photography
Experienced photographer with a passion for nature, travel, and sports photography, bringing a fresh perspective. John's own work is shaped by chasing fast-moving subjects and unpredictable outdoor light, which comes through directly in the feedback he gives students working through the same challenges in their own assignments.

Wildlife photography around Hamilton
The west coast at Raglan adds shorebirds and, in season, seabirds off Manu Bay; the Hauraki Gulf and Miranda's shorebird centre on the Firth of Thames, about 90 minutes away, are the premium wader trip for godwits from September to March. The course's ethics module applies everywhere: keep the distances DOC asks for, never bait or call birds, and step back if behaviour changes.
