The Hauraki Gulf is a marine park; whale and dolphin trips from the Viaduct are the marine assignment if you want one, and Rangitoto and Motutapu have shorebirds and a landscape that doubles as a wildlife habitat study. The course's ethics module matters here: keep DOC distances, never bait or call birds, and leave the colony if birds change behaviour because of you.
