Banks Peninsula is the marine assignment. Akaroa Harbour's boat trips give you Hector's dolphins, the world's smallest, and often little blue penguins and fur seals; from land, Pōhatu / Flea Bay's penguin colony is visited by guided tour, and the peninsula's bays hold seals. The course's ethics module applies directly: keep DOC distances, never pursue dolphins, no flash on penguins.
